A Bold Future Lies Ahead
On June 8, 2017, the New York Jets will enter the future in strikingly modern uniforms for the 2017 season. These invigorating new designs incorporate both the classic style of the New York Jets and fresh uniform features that will give the Jets a bold new look.
The new uniforms, developed by the New York Jets, the NFL and Nike, look to pay homage to the Jets’ storied history, while positioning the franchise for an exciting future. “We wanted these uniforms to make an immediate statement,” owner Woody Johnson said, “Our franchise has donned remarkable and classic uniforms over our history, and these new uniforms are inspired by the past with an eye for the future.”
The New York Jets' personnel and the Nike design team received input from both players and fans as they designed new uniforms that would appeal to the young and growing generation of Jets' fans. This collaborative effort created uniforms that embody both the innovative and traditional spirit of the entire organization.
The new home uniforms will now be head-to-toe matte black with classic white and green stripes on both the shoulder pads and pants, while the new away uniforms will follow the classic white model with new crisp green and black decals on the shoulder pads and pants. The matte black uniforms are a deviation from the predominantly green home uniforms the Jets have worn since the 1960s. Donned in all black, the Jets will be an incredibly intimidating force to reckon with at MetLife Stadium. The home uniforms also include the traditional Jets logo decal below the shoulder pads. Additionally, the font used for both the numbers and the players’ last names have been handcrafted to have an increasingly futuristic feel.
“As soon as you put on those uniforms, you feel like a Jet,” explains Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall, “The all black uniforms make you feel powerful and aggressive, while the logo and stripes make you feel like you are carrying the weight of the history of the franchise on your back. In these uniforms, we’re ready to make our own history.”
The uniforms were designed to include Nike’s state-of-the-art technology to create dynamic uniforms for incredible athletes. Nike’s Flywire technology make these uniforms flexible, customizable and the most lightweight uniforms in the NFL. “We hand crafted these uniforms to provide these athletes with optimal range of motion so they can perform at their absolute best on Sundays,” said Todd Van Horne, Nike’s VP and Creative Director of Football.
The Jets new fan jerseys are scheduled to go on sale July 1, 2017 in the Jets’ official online team store (jetsshop.com), NFLShop.com and in local Nike retail locations.
